BEST PRACTICES: OUT-OF-COURT ADVOCACY

Targeted, skillful, and thorough out-of-court advocacy is a central component of quality legal representation. The examples in this graphic are illustrative of the type of settings, outside of the courtroom, where attorney advocacy can meaningfully impact the trajectory of the case and outcomes for youth, parents, and families.

A CIP should be prepared to assess whether attorneys are providing quality out-of-court advocacy. Although some data on this best practice may be gathered from courtroom observation, other data sources (i.e. surveys) will likely need to be consulted to gather a full picture on this measure.
