SKILLS
Written Advocacy
- Lawyers who represent youth should demonstrate the ability to strategically use written advocacy to achieve the client’s goals, preserve the record, attain court orders in the client’s interest, and move the case towards permanency.

Trial skills
- CIPs should seek to identify data points to assess a youth’s attorney’s trial skills at each stage of litigation - discovery, pre-trial, and trial. Even if aligned with another party, the quality youth’s attorney should have a clear position throughout litigation and demonstrate skilled trial advocacy.
